Network Security Software - Antivirus, Firewall, IDS and Network Safety
Network security is the protection of networks and their services from unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure, and provision of assurance that the network performs its critical functions correctly and there are no harmful side-effects. Network security includes providing for data integrity.
Network Security Software includes antivirus software, firewalls and network intrusion detection systems (NIDS). Each Computer Network’s security requirements are based on the vulnerabilities of that individual system.
By properly employing HIPAA security risk assessment, host intrusion detection systems, wlan intrusion detection, firewall virus protection and computer security certifications, Network security can be optimized. The payoff is usually far greater than the cost. The payoff includes safer communication, protection from data theft (loss of corporate secrets), a secure computing environment, and the many intangible benefits.
Through a Vulnerability Assessment (VA) browser, router and server vulnerabilities can be isolated and defined. Based on this vulnerability scanning, a security policy must be developed and made available to end users. Employees who implement the security assessment through Network security software must be familiarized with usage so as to implement the Network security policy successfully.
There are three types of attacks which network security software has to protect against. The first is a denial of service (DOS), the second is an attack aimed at destroying data, and the third type of attack involves data theft.
- DOS attacks aim at making usage of the network difficult or impossible for regular users. Denial of Service attacks can be countered using Network Intrusion defence systems, security information management systems and firewalls.
- Worms and Viruses are used to destroy data so that it becomes difficult or impossible for you to do business. Hacker attempts to destroy data can be thwarted using desktop antivirus systems, HIDS and desktop firewalls.
- Data theft can originate within the organization or from outside. Proper usage of Network security software can deter and prevent such attacks. A good way to beat online data theft is to use encryption systems while the data is in transit.
A Risk Assessment is an integral part of Network security. This includes an assessment of important assets, threats to them, and the cost of vulnerabilities. A Network security policy should then be designed using Network security software in synchronization with needs of security and costs of vulnerability.
Network security policy should also give email security prime importance. Anti–Spam Filters can be used to reduce the amount of junk mail and thus save work time. Email security software can be used so as to ensure non breach of security though email. Parts of network security can be outsourced, which results in cost and time savings, but, also, a loss of control.
Network security software is of prime importance and therefore the choice and employment of network security software becomes of prime importance too. The benefits make an efficient employment of network security essential. Using the HIPAA security risk assessment to determine network security needs, developing a policy and plan, and putting it into effect means safety, security and peace of mind. Network security software must be regularly updated to keep pace with the dynamic software security environment. NIDS signatures, antivirus signatures and patches must be regularly updated.
